Highlights Strengths in Youth to Improve Health Outcomes

RESEARCHER
Dr. Opara research interests focuses on highlighting protective factors against sexual risk behavior and drug use among urban black girls using community-based approach in her research in which she highlights the role of resiliency within black families and their role in HIV/AIDS and drug use prevention. Dr Opara heavily advocates for empowerment and anti-deficit lens to be infused in education, prevention research, and health policy for all ethnic minority youth whom belong in historically marginalized backgrounds.
SPEAKER
Dr. Opara is a sought-out speaker on topics related to drug use and abuse prevention (particularly youth marijuana and alcohol use), girls and women empowerment, sexual health disparities, advocacy, and community-based participatory research methods. Dr. Opara has presented at conferences and events both domestically and internationally.
